Another Magical Day…..

Hello there. I have a set of cards to share today, and entering some challenges by the skin of my teeth. I had made them and photographed yesterday, but got so engrossed with watching a Netflix series last night – bonged on 5 episodes – I had to write this now.

Here are the cards: (I kinda went overboard!!)

I made four cards because I made big piece of the background. I used orange, yellow, and pink Distress Oxides and ink-blended the background. I then took some Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens in similar colours and splattered the background.

I couldn’t decide what size to do the strip of colour – so I did a variety……

I stamped the Avery Elle ‘Pegasus Duo’ and coloured with Copics, and as you can see I did some pink and some white – with grey shading. I think I like the white ones the best – and I think the pink ones are more for a younger girl – but you never know………..

Hi everyone. It seems I am on a circular-fest…..:

I began by ink blending a couple of red Distress Oxides onto a piece of white card, then spraying it with some shimmer spray. Whilst that was drying, I die cut the Hero Arts ‘Snowflakes and Ornament Fancy Die‘ out of red glitter card which I had backed with a piece of double-sided sticky tape.

Another piece of white card just smaller than the card front was also die-cut with that same die, to create an aperture.

The red shimmery card was stuck down to the base, the aperture piece stuck on top, then the bauble inlaid into the die-cut space.

The sentiment was also die-cut out of the red glitter card.

I must say the Gemini Junior die-cut this red glitter card very well – but I did use the metal plate in just in case. I must remember that for other fancy dies in the future, and not try to die cut them without this metal plate, especially when using double-sided sticky sheets.

Surfing Dog….

Hi there. I’ve been struggling to get my crafty head on – after the Altenew day last weekend, working, and also having the builders in doing two bathrooms – it’s been a bit difficult to sit and craft. I just didn’t seem to have enough ideas – I played with stuff, but making a complete card escaped me for a few days.

I managed to start one yesterday, and completed an actual card this morning – in the middle of all the banging, and sanding – I sat there with my headphones on listening to some music to try and drown things out. (I may have been helped by Justin Timberlake and Neil Diamond………!) :)

Here is the card:

I first stamped, coloured, and then die cut several of the images from Simon says Stamp ‘Chillin’ Frenchies’. You can see which one I went for……….

The background took a little more thinking about…….

I used the Waffle Flower ‘Cloudscape’ panel die and cut it out of a light blue card-stock, then added a couple of colours of Distress Oxides to the edges, blending a little – but actually not much. Using a blue card-stock to begin with made that a little easier. You can see the original blue card in the gaps between the layer elements, which I separated, just to add more interest and dimension. I do like to play with die-cuts sometimes…..

The other background squares were cut using Sue Wilson ‘Noble Stitched Squares’.

Robot Birthday

I have a busy weekend ahead, so I have taken the opportunity to make cards today. I enjoyed making this one – very bright and colourful:

This ‘Me and My Robot’ stamp set from Mama Elephant and die from Hero Arts ‘Paper Layering Neighborhood‘ die arrived today, actually, and I immediately thought of a few challenges I could merge.

The robot is coloured with Copics, and some white gel pen added for some highlights.

The blue background is Distress Oxide blended, and the card behind the building die is also Distress Oxide blended using red, blue, yellow to match the robot.

Watercooler Wednesday

Santa and a Chimney

Hello again. I have been trying some new techniques on this card, as it is a new challenge at The ABC Christmas Challenge. The themes is/are ‘L’ for Little, and ‘M’ for Masking:

I first stamped the Santa from Crafters Companion ‘Christmas Stamp and metal die set – Santa‘ and then coloured him in Copics. The stamp itself has quite a bit of shading on it, so I just followed those lines – basically – to create some shading. I then stamped him again on some masking paper and fussy cut him out – realising afterwards that the stamp set comes with a die that cuts around him – oh well……hind sight…..!

I masked him off then went hunting for a stencil of roof tops, or chimneys or anything I thought would go as a background, and found my Sheena Douglass stencil from her ‘Remember When‘ set called ‘Big Chimney‘.

I ink blended a couple of Distress Oxides for the chimney and roof top, then thought about the sky area……so then ink blended from a cloud stencil I have from Inkylicious.

I then removed the Santa mask, some more thought about the snow area, and decided to try out my new buy from Hero Arts – the ‘Snow and Froth Technique Kit‘……with heart in my mouth as I had virtually completed the card.

And – it worked:

I didn’t dare do any more snow technique on the rest of the rooftops and chimney, as I felt the card was complete aside from a sentiment, which is a die from Birch Press.

Safari time

Hi everyone. I have another card to share today. It was going to be two cards, but I messed up the second card so much – I ended up having stern words with myself and binned it! Just one of those things….and it just kept happening, but I managed to persuade myself this card was alright:

I took a piece of card and masked off the outer two long edges, leaving the centre open, and ink blended three Distress Oxides.

Once that had dried, I took the a mixture of stamps from Hero Arts ‘Safari Huge Thanks‘ and ‘Safari Wild About You‘ and stamped them as you see with Catherine Pooler Midnight ink.

I had to stamp each image a couple of times to get them crisp, but it was worth it – until I came to the sentiment. The last thing on the card, the final thing I had to do…………..and the card moved between the first and second stamping. Despite using my Misti, despite using my magnets in my Misti!!!! It really wasn’t my day……..

It gave two images of the sentiment, so I swore a little, I went downstairs, I made a coffee, I then went back upstairs and stamped again – at least four times – to make the sentiment look as though it had a shadow. It almost looks like it’s hovering there in the air – almost!

Anyhoo – I still like the card, I like the black images against the colours of Distress Oxides. I actually Googled what ‘Hakuna Matata‘ means – and it is ‘no problem‘ or ‘no troubles‘ – well………I have taken that to heart with this card.

So if the sentiment looks hovering and shadowed…….no problem! Hakuna Matata! :) :)

A Big Birthday Wish

Hello there. I have a busy day ahead – crafting and house stuff. I’ve already been out for my third mini-bike ride…….I’ve just started to cycle, and currently only going out for 15-20 minutes. The second time I went out I fell off – that seat was just too high and I couldn’t put my feet down when I stopped……gravel rash in hand and knee – but now all good.

So, now I feel all proud that I’ve already done some exercise – I feel craftiness coming on. I have to make a card for the next Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge – due to start on the 26th March; it is Mother’s Day here in the UK next Sunday – 31st March; it is my mum’s birthday on Thursday 28th March………..and on the 3rd of April the next ABC Christmas Challenge begins………I’d better get to it, hadn’t I?

The card for posting this morning was a little fiddly, but I enjoyed creating it:

I stamped the Mama Elephant ‘Little Cat Agenda‘ and coloured with Copics. All the same colour, and only used red and yellow for the items the cats were holding, as I knew I was going to do a vibrant and colourful background.

I then used Distress Oxides in rainbow colours to create the background, and cut it out with my newly purchased MFT ‘Puzzle Cover-Up Die-Dynamic’. I toyed with the idea of putting the puzzle pieces back together correctly, then thought about them all back crooked, but went with this way – some gaps between each piece.

It also took me a bit of time arranging these little puddy tats – I didn’t want yellow additions on the yellow piece, and wanted to ensure some contrast between the cats and the background.

The sentiment is also from MFT – a freebie from Seven Hills Crafts ages ago, but a great range of birthday sentiments in different fonts – I usually go to that stamp set time and again.

Sparkly deer

Hi there. I have a quick posting for a card today, to enter the current challenge at CAS Christmas Cards:

I took this very intricate deer from X-cut, and cut it out of glitter card from Crafters Companion, after sticking some double-sided sticky sheet on the back of it. I knew the deer was intricate, and didn’t want to glue it, as I generally get some glue leaking around the edges.

I used the Crafters Companion Gemini Junior to cut it – and that took several passes through the machine – which is very unusual. I even used the metal plate too…….

The blue/green rectangle is Distress Oxides, which I blended through an aperture I masked off. The sentiment is from a Concord and 9th stamp set. I thought the sentiment was suitable for a peaceful looking deer.

So – a quick posting, as I was at the computer buying the newest Catherine Pooler release…………which will take 2-3 weeks to get to me!! I am sure you will know when I have it, as there will definitely be some cards made very soon after receiving it…….. :)

Jump For Joy

Hi there. Another card to share with you today, based on the current colours at Color Throwdown – coral red, blue, green, Kraft:

I used the MFT ‘Over The Moon For You’ stamp and die set, stamping the images and colouring in the challenge colours – with an added grey neutral for the sheep.

The Distress Oxide blue background using the ink blending technique – not too dark, just a hint of the sky. The green hillock was a piece of card coloured using the emerald green Copic, then die cut from the matching die set.

The coral red component was for colouring the little flowers, and Kraft for the fence and background card.

No sunshine here today to take the picture, but at least it was day-light!

I shall also be entering this card into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, with the theme of ‘anything goes’.

Colourful City Scapes

Hi there. Another card for you today – totally outside my comfort zone:

I received this stamp set from the sale of stash Justine Hovey was having. Concord and 9th City Scapes. Not a stamp and die set I had really thought of, as I struggle with scenes, and still find them very difficult to layer and get right.

When I saw the colours for the current Color Throwdown Challenge, I decided that now was the time to use this set………..and to create a card with a more masculine feel with these colours.

I used Distress Oxide in three purple colours for the background – no water splatters this time.

The main stamps were heat embossed in grey as I knew I wanted a distressed water-colour effect for the buildings – using Altenew water-colour pan set for the grey colour, and the rusty hinge Distress Oxide for the – well – rust colour in the house windows.

The sentiment is cobbled together from a couple of stamp sets, and heat embossed in white, on the grey die cut tree layer. I didn’t stamp the trees – I just drew a black line within the images with a black gel pen.

My difficulty was the layers – were to place them, how to place them, how to stick them down – all took a whole load of thinking and sorting out – some die-cuts were put to one side for another day………..kinda!
