You Bring Colour To My World…

Hello once again. It’s my final card as Surprise Party Guest at Seize The Birthday. It’s been a fabulous couple of months – I didn’t realise how many birthday cards I actually needed too – most of them went out within a couple of weeks of making them.

Onto the topic for the birthday card this time:

Here is my card:

MY ‘wheel’ is obviously the Colour Wheel – a slightly reduced colour scheme – I thought 6 colours would work for this…and with the pandas being black and white – well – I thought it would work quite nicely.

For images such as these pandas, then Copics are my favourite way of coloring – small images, with a little shading for dimension.

Now let me tell you – can you divide a circle into 6 equal parts without a protractor? It took me forever – hubby came up with the idea of printing out a clock face with just the numbers – then using the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 – as the six partitions……he comes in handy occasionally!

I coloured the six parts, then drew a black dividing line between each, and die cut with a stitched circle.

The pandas are from Clearly Besotted – as is the sentiment. The word ‘colour’ – using the UK spelling to get the six letters – I stamped in a very light brown ink, then coloured each letter with the same Copic colours I had used on the wheel.

The ‘happy birthday’ is part of a longer sentiment, but I masked off the rest of it just to keep these two words.

I hope you can join us in the birthday challenge – whether you use the option or not – it would be great to see you there. xx

Be Merry, Be Merry, Be Merry

Hello once again. This is my card for the new challenge at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge:

The theme at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge is always anything goes as long as it’s a Christmas/festive theme.

For this card I used some Clearly Besotted stamp sets,, Copic colouring, and my Brother Scan-n-cut to cut them out. I played around quite a bit with the Scan-n-cut to try and get it to cut the middle of the wreath out – but I couldn’t figure it out, and I didn’t want to fussy-cut and ruin the wreath after I’d coloured it – so it stays as it is!

I added quite a bit of white gel pen to my image – one of those things you do and again I couldn’t seem to stop once I’d started – but I’m liking the over-all effect.

The background stars paper I think is from Stampin-Up – but not exactly sure, and the blue splattery piece is another from a my ink smooshing/splattering and generally playing around stash. I seem to be able to find a use for these at the moment, so I’m glad I played around one day.

The sentiment was stamped, and I coloured the back red panel with a Copic to get it to match the main image.

I hope you can join us, and I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Let’s Meet Up Soon…..

Hello everyone. The Alphabet Challenge has started a new challenge. We have reached the letter ‘D’, and Veronika has chosen the theme of ‘Dragons and/or Dinosaurs’. Here is my card:

The stamp set is an oldie – but it’s a goodie, and my first thought when I saw what the theme was.

I stamped the images onto Neenah 80lb card – what? I hear you say. You are colouring on a different kind of card? Well – yes…….I recently attended a virtual class with Jenn Shurkus and she always uses Neenah 80lb to Copic colour. So – I thought I’d give it a try – it took a few weeks to be able to acquire some, but let me tell you – I like it.

I tried the 110lb to Copic colour before and didn’t like the results. I think it’s too thick and dried too quick to get a good blend. I feel I’m talking like I’m an expert – but you know what you and you like what you like, don’t you. I am NOT a Copic expert – but I have fun when I colour small images………..not a colourist either. Images that are too big, and colouring pages bore me, doesn’t relax me – so I like the little colouring I do when it comes to cards.

Anyhoo – back to the game in hand……..I kept the colour scheme quite simple. In this world the grass is pink, to match the dragons, and help them camouflage!

The slimline card base is Neenah 110lbs, the second layer is Neenah 80lbs with an MFT cloud stencil and the new Distress Ink ‘Salvaged Patina‘.

The grass is a piece of Creative Expression ‘Blush’ card, die cut to match the scallops, then die cut again with a Mama Elephant grass die, and then some ‘Kitsch Flamingo’ blended into the top edges.

I didn’t put the sentiment on the front of this card – I felt it would spoil the overall effect – and so I will be putting something on the inside. Now the restrictions in the UK have eased a little, and we can meet people indoors, in restaurants etc – I am hoping I can meet up with a friend or two over a meal and a little bevy…….

I miss the nipping out for a coffee with a mate, or meeting someone for a quick evening meal somewhere – I am hoping my diary will rapidly fill with dates like this!

I hope you can come and join us with your dragons and/or your dinosaurs – I;m looking forward to seeing your creations. xx

How’s It Going, Friend?

Hello there. I am hosting the new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz, and I chose the theme of ‘Things With Wings’. I chose a very broad subject matter, leaving the choice of what things with wings you wanted to use – as long as it’s towards the girlie genre – you’re good. Here is my card:

The blue background is a water-colour smooshing technique using Distress Inks. It seems to have got a little contaminated with yellow on the edge – but I think it adds a certain interest – and I liked the over-all colour so much I used it anyway.

The square blue butterfly is a die from Simon says stamp, which was cut out of the main panel – I gutted the base blue card, as they say, and the same goes for the blue under the sentiment.

The white card base is one from a previous virtual class, using a Simon Says Stamp red rubber background stamp, where we were heat embossing and then ink smooshing – but this panel was left without anything doing to it, so I used it here as the flowery base for the butterfly.

So – ink smooshed base layer, white heat embossed flower layer, and then the sentiment and butterfly for another layer – and yet it seems so CAS still to me.

I hope you can come and join us with our ‘Things With Wings’ challenge – I look forward to seeing where your creativity takes you. xx

Birthday Bouquet

Hello there. My surprise guest appearance at Seize The Birthday is continuing. The new challenge just starting is to create a bouquet for your birthday project. Here is my card:

The flower and watering can dies are from Honey Bee, using Concord & 9th Card stock. I also added some MFT outline greenery.

I just used the two colours of card for the flowers, mixing and matching the dies until I was happy with the way they came out.

Some of the foliage is stuck down with glue, some with dimensionals, to create a flowing effect.

I hope you can join us, and I look forward to seeing what you create for this birthday bouquet project. xx

Comfy Christmas

Hello there. A new challenge has started at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge, and we have a new Design team member, another Shona – so she has been christened ‘Shona E’.

As always, the theme is anything goes Christmas. Here is my card:

Both of these images is from a Simon Says Stamp set. I first stamped the comfy chair, masked one side of it, and then stamped the bag of presents – so it was kinda hidden behind the chair.

I coloured the images with Copics, and added some white gel pen for some interest. For some reason I couldn’t stop using the white lines – so there may be more than there should be – but I was having fun!

I love that these three critters are laying together in perfect harmony, and it just makes me smile…..

The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

This panel was die cut with a stitched rectangle, then placed on some red shiny Lawn Fawn card, and then adhered to a top folding card base.

I hope you can come and join us this time round – I look forward to seeing what you create. xx

‘C’ for Coffee or Chocolate

Hello. The Alphabet Challenge has started a new challenge, beginning with the letter ‘C’ – and Rachelle has chosen the theme of ‘coffee and/or chocolate’.

Here is my card:

I was going to go with a one layer card – but I couldn’t figure out how to mask the back of each cup to allow them to look like they were nesting inside each other.

So, I stamped them each separately, die cut them, then added a little cut into the top rim and nestled the next cup into that cut.

I chose to leave the flowers on the coffee pot un-coloured, and kept the card itself CAS.

I hope you can come and join us with your coffee and/or chocolate creations. xx

Welcome To The Neighbourhood

Hello there. Cardz 4 Galz is starting a new challenge with a new theme. This time, we want to see your ‘New Beginnings’ creations. Think new home, baby, marriage – anything which would fit our theme and kinda girlie….

Here is my card:

I went with girlie colours and a neighbourhood (no apologies for the UK spelling) welcome banner.

Another slimline card so I could get everything on there I wanted!

The MFT airplane was constructed using yellow and a deep red/pink – which took me a little while. Lots of pieces, but once I figured out where each went – easy – just be careful of any glue squishing out!

The houses border is from Simon Says Stamp, outline in brown amalgam ink as I wasn’t sure if I was going to Copic colour them……I decided not to and let the colourful plane be the centre of attention.

The sentiment is stamped, cut to shape a banner, then two dark pieces of thread to act as the attachment to the plane.

The clouds were just sitting there from die-cutting the plane – so added for some additional interest and fun.

I hope you can come and join us – and I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Snowflake Joy

Hello there. A new challenge has started at ABC Christmas Challenge, and this time we want to see your creations with the following themes:

‘J’ for Jewels, and/or ‘K’ for Kids

don’t forget it has to be Christmas or festive related too

I decided to go ‘J’ for Jewels:

On the grey card base I placed snowflake patterned card from my stash – I like the muted snowflake pattern here.

The snowflakes are from Simon Says Stamp, as is the word ‘Joy’ and die cut out of some very, very glitters blue and silver card stock. The hardest part about this was the placement of the snowflakes – but once I got my head around having them slightly off the card – it came together quite well.

I have some glittery jewels, which I stuck down on the snowflakes and the middle of the word ‘Joy’ – something I have it my stash and don’t really think about using – so many sticky jewels…..so many!

I hope you can come and join us with your creations following our themes – I look forward to seeing what you create. xx

Bouncy Fun and Games

Hello there. Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge has started for the month of May. The them this time is ‘Fun and Games’. Here is my card:

I went with another interactive card – someone will have to stop me soon! Even though there are some layers to this, I still feel it is CAS. It took me a while to figure this out, but I love the outcome – very much fun and playful.

The pull tab mechanism is from Heffy Doodle, using the card stock from Concord & 9th. The MFT images were stamped, cut using the matching dies, then coloured with Copics.

I hope you can come and join us with your CAS fun and games creations – I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx
