Dinosaur Birthday

Hello there. I have a birthday card to share as Surprise Party Guest at the new challenge at Seize The Birthday. The new theme is:

Birthday and funny/punny

Here is my card:

For this card I used the new dinosaur dies from Gummiapan. These little cuties come as one set, so I die cut them out of water-colour card and used my Zigs to colour them in – very haphazardly, very roughly, and just let the colours do their thing.

I decided to go more mixed media for a change with the background, and started by die cutting another label/tag die from the same company out of an ink smooshed and splattered panel I had.

The background panel was created by using a piece of Distress Heavy white card stock, a little ink blending, running it through with a Spellbinders embossing folder, then brushing a brown ink pad over the top to catch the higher parts of the design.

All the elements were attached, then the sentiment stamped and added as you see.

I’m A Lucky Duck

Hello and welcome. Cardz 4 Galz has started anew challenge, this time the host is Helen, and she has chosen the theme of:

Wings – butterflies, fairies, dragons etc

Here is my card:

For this card, I created my own background panel using techniques learnt from a Jenn Shurkus virtual event and Distress water-colour pencils. I loved this particular technique, and made several panels with different colours.

The technique consists of using a wet small brush, taking colour from the Distress pencil, then just scribbling a patchwork of colour down onto a panel….that’s it……

After the panel was dry, I spritzed with the dirty water from my little water pot thingy (I know – but as per Jenn Shurkus – it works well!!), then added a stamp of musical notes to the top – no idea why I chose that stamp – and you also use a wet distress pencil to colour the stamp – then stamp it. It gives a faint and blurry image.

This was drying to one side, and I die cut the ducks from a Simon says Stamp set, layering them together and adding small black gems for their eyes.

The sentiment was stamped and die cut using s trip die – I think it is two sentiments I stamped to make one – but I can’t find the second half of the sentiment now – this first half is definitely Lawn Fawn.

The panel was adhered to a white card base, th3e sentiment and ducks arranged as you see.

How’s It Going, Friend?

Hello there. I am hosting the new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz, and I chose the theme of ‘Things With Wings’. I chose a very broad subject matter, leaving the choice of what things with wings you wanted to use – as long as it’s towards the girlie genre – you’re good. Here is my card:

The blue background is a water-colour smooshing technique using Distress Inks. It seems to have got a little contaminated with yellow on the edge – but I think it adds a certain interest – and I liked the over-all colour so much I used it anyway.

The square blue butterfly is a die from Simon says stamp, which was cut out of the main panel – I gutted the base blue card, as they say, and the same goes for the blue under the sentiment.

The white card base is one from a previous virtual class, using a Simon Says Stamp red rubber background stamp, where we were heat embossing and then ink smooshing – but this panel was left without anything doing to it, so I used it here as the flowery base for the butterfly.

So – ink smooshed base layer, white heat embossed flower layer, and then the sentiment and butterfly for another layer – and yet it seems so CAS still to me.
