Life’s a beach…..

Hello there. I have a CAS card to share today which stretched my Copic colouring knowledge – research was undertaken! – to create a beach scene:

I used Make It colour blending card and stamped the Clearly Besotted scene onto the bottom of it in Gina K amalgam ink.

Once stamped, I then turned to the tinterweb and searched for ideas on colours and ‘how to‘ colour a beach scene and the sea. Most of the colours and methods came from watching Mindy Baxter do her magic – very inspiring. I added some more colours – and actually used a couple of different ‘blues’ for the sea as I didn’t want it too dark or even too light – but kudos to her for her easy to follow instructions.

Here is a picture of the colours I used:

I think I missed the dark brown Copics somehow!

I find taking a picture of the colours helps me to look back and see what I was happy with, and what combination of colours I may use again. I do write these down in a note book – very OCD at the moment – and write where I have used them on what card and what post so I can easily look back and see if I was happy with the colours or not.

The card was then die cut using some stitched rectangle frames, then adhered to a white card base. The Make It card isn’t thick enough to be used as a one layer card, so if I want to do one of those, I tend to colour on Neenah Classic Crest – but I find that doesn’t blend as well, so I have to choose my colours carefully – or colour using another medium.

I hope you are all well and managing to stay sane……!

Add a kite….

Hello there. I hope you are keeping well – and as isolated as possible! As I’m one of the NHS nurses still working, it’s great to see people obeying the rules – mostly!

On my down time, I am crafting like crazy………such a relaxing and creative craft, except now I’m making cards for sending out to people just because I can. Not for any particular reason – just because I can. Therefore, many of the sentiments I shall be using are quite generic, and hopefully raise a smile.

This card is for the new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz and the new topic this time is – can you guess – ‘Use a Kite’. Here is my card:

Here are the Copics I used:

I stamped the Clearly Besotted plushie and kite, coloured with Copics, then fussy-cut them out…….I know – me and fussy-cutting…….wonders never cease!

The background stamps are also from Clearly Besotted, and once the rainbow had been stamped, I masked it off to add the sunshine and clouds stamp, then underneath the tree and hills stamp.

I made a decision to leave the background un-coloured for several reasons. I think the blank backgrounds leave the rainbow and plushie as the centre of attention, secondly I didn’t know what colours to use so I didn’t take away from the little bear – but mostly because I don’t colour backgrounds very well! At all! Hence leaving them blank – and I;m actually quite liking the effect………..

I hope you can come and join us with your kitecreations, and I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Have a Magical Day…

Hello again. I have a card to share today based in the colours from Color Throwdown:

When I saw the challenge colours come up last week, my page loaded very slowly – so I saw the purple first, then was hoping for a yellow or green as I had these little dragons in mind……….and got both yellow and green! With some grey thrown in, too!

I generally get inspiration the first time I see a challenge – the colours or the sketch – but it takes me a few days to organise myself – which is why I generally post to the challenge in the last days – if not the last hours!

I bought these little ‘Dragon Plushies‘ from the newest release from Clearly Besotted, and stamp, coloured and die cut them. I used 2 or 3 three Copic colours for the dragons, the yellow’s and purples, then added some green anyway, because I didn’t quite know how I was going to put these onto a card.

Then I realised that part of that same release had a stamp and die set ‘Scene It More’ which I thought would be ideal. I stamped the hills and trees, then stamped again the hills. Stuck together, and coloured with a few YG Copics.

I did use some grey on the trees – but kept that quite light so the dragons and hills drew the eyes. I mounted the coloured piece onto some Lawn Fawn grey card stock anyway, to give two border edges.

I was tempted to ‘ground’ the dragons with some shadow beneath them – but I was too scared to add that to the mostly completed card….. – I do have some fear! I also thought the right side dragon looks almost as though it’s in flight……maybe…..kinda……and stuck down with foam pads – maybe hovering?

Whilst I was planning my colours and colouring, I had a look on the Clearly Besotted web-site – blinking heck that’s some amazing colouring! I am no-where near that standard of colouring, but this time I had fun with the colouring – usually it’s a chore to me. (I also had to Google what a plushie was!)

The sentiment is from that same dragon stamp set, and I think is quite universal and for any occasion. I mentioned yesterday about whether or not to put a sentiment on a card – sometimes I don’t – unless made with a specific person and occasion in mind.
