Alphabet Challenge – Flora or Fauna

Hello once again. I hope you are doing OK. There is a new challenge beginning at The Alphabet Challenge. We have reached the letter ‘F’ – and we want to see your Flora or Fauna. I decided to go with Flora:

I began by stamping then heat embossing in white the Honey Bee Stamps ‘In Full Bloom’ stamp, then water-colouring with my Altenew water-colour pan set. I only used one navy blue for the water-colouring, but did three layers at least, to try and create some dimension to the flowers.

I also coloured the leaves from that same water-colour set, but these are so small, I just did a simple wet and drop in the colour kinda thing.

Strangely enough, I tried to find a navy blue in my full Arteza water-colour pens – but despite my having the complete brush pen set – I couldn’t find a blue that was navy enough! Hence the use of the Altenew set.

I die-cut the outside with the matching die set and pondered on die-cutting the centre. As you see, I did cut out the centre, as the water-colour card is from Arteza and has a cream tinge to it – not white.

Then I thought this was too plain on the card base, so I took a piece of navy card-stock and dry embossed using a Crafters Companion 3D embossing folder. The first attempt – I didn’t get the plates right in my Junior, so it reversed it back out to me. Then when I did get the plates right – the depth of the folder created such dimension – the card split!

So – another piece of card, sprayed some water on it to dampen a little – hey presto! It worked. I think I’ll write down the combination ready for the future.

The sentiment is from a Simon says Stamp die and added with foam pads slightly higher than the floral frame.

I hope you can come and join us for this challenge – I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Never Doubt Yourself

Hi once again. I hope you are all well. I have a card to share today using Brushos and playing:

I have had this stamp set from Thirsty Brush and Co for quite a while – it was a members gift from Create and Craft. I knew I wanted to colour it at some point, but whilst I was adding items to Color My Life app – I came across it again – just after I was sorting through my Brusho and water-colours……

Again – finding things and playing whilst also sorting – that’s why it’s taking me so long…….well – and the fact I have so much stuff!

I used some Arteza water-colour card, stamped then white heat embossed the butterfly image, and then played. And got messy……so much fun!

I wet the card, then dropped in a couple of Brusho colours – some I moved around, some I left very vivid – then let it dry.

When it was dry…………………I didn’t like it. I didn’t think the butterfly and the flowers on the butterfly were obvious enough. I was ready to throw it in the bin – when I remembered what the stamp set is called. ‘Never Doubt Yourself’.

So – I made a card anyway – and the more I look at it, the more I like it – the colours, the wildness, the sentiment…….so here we are! An encouraging card – maybe I should send it to myself…………..! 🙂

Life Can Be Tough – But So Can You………

Hi there. I have made a card today just for the fun of it. I took inspiration from several challenges – but I wanted to create a fun and colourful card, with some inspiring words. Inspiring for me – and for everyone else.

I wanted to play around with colour, I wanted to play with some water-colouring, I wanted to just play. I didn’t want to particularly think about what I was creating. I knew I wanted to use this stamp set from Hero Arts, and I knew what sketch and colours I wanted to use – so I began.

I played, I water-coloured, I used colour, I used dies. No shading, no thinking about which way the light was coming from – just played………..and in the end I am pleased with what I created!

I stamped the turtle onto Arteza water-colour card in Altenew Obsidian ink, let it dry a little, then collected the four colours together I was using from the current challenge at Color Throwdown.

I did colour a turtle in pink – but didn’t like that, so here is what I did the second time around. I used a little water with each colour, to spread things around a little, and I’d forgotten how pigmented these zigs are……..

The stitched waves were pieces of card coloured again with zigs and die cut using a Lawn Fawn ‘stitched wavy borders’ die, and they remind me of some sea-weed drifting in the motion of the sea.

I have just receievd some Tracy Hey Designs stamp sets – and this sentiment was just sat there looking at me………………it’s almost as though I am saying this to myself – and saying this to others. I may have to use this sentiment again…….

So – a fairly basic yet colourful card, I enjoyed the process, and I’m already planning what to make tomorrow…..

Watercolour Poinsettia

Hello once again. I have a card to share for the new challenge beginning at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. The theme is anything goes as long as it’s Christmas related.

Here is my card:

I began by stamping and heat embossing in white the Thirsty Brush and Co ‘Sparkle to my world’ stamp set onto Arteza water-colour card. I used the rough side of the card as I like the look that gives with watercolour. I then used the Arteza Real Brush pens and a combination of several reds for the poinsettia itself, and several greens for the leaves.

I just played with the colours and the shading – not particularly taking any notice of light source – just playing and colouring, adding water, then taking some away – I do tend to add too much water sometimes – until I was happy with the result.

I did colour some of the stamped berries, but I didn’t like how they turned out, so I went into my Tonic Nuvo drop stash – I seem to have a lot of these drops – and found a colour that matched. I also found a lovely green – so I added that too.

For some reason, I just can’t stop adding these drops once I start:

I layered some red and green card and as I wanted to stamp the sentiment in black to make an impact, I used a black card base.

I hope you can come and join us, as I’d love to see what Christmas creations you can add to our gallery. The Design Team has some fabulous and varied inspiration for you xx

Fractile Leaf Thank you

Hi everyone. I’ve been itching to play with the Simon Says Stamp ‘Fractile Leaves’ stamp set, and saw the opportunity for several challenges:

I used quite a few of the leaf stamps in the set and stamped them onto Arteza water-colour card in a variable pattern, to try and cover a lot of it – but leaving quite a few spaces.

I used Catherine Pooler ‘Green Tea‘ ink as the olive colour for the colour challenge, then heat embossed in a clear embossing powder – twice – to give a raised edges for all the little lines in each leaf.

I then took the Arteza Teal brush marker – and just played – putting the ink down,, and using quite a bit of water – as I wanted some pooling of the ink in each little area on the leaves.

Whist that was drying I took the MFT ‘Thank You’ die and cut it out of a rust coloured card stock, then a navy card stock – but when I put those colours together – even off-set – they didn’t look right. So – I die cut the word again in plain white, put that in the middle of the two colours – and I think the three layers work well together, with the white showing the other two colours nicely.

I shall be entering the following challenges:

Color Throwdownteal, olive, navy blue, rust

Blue Bouquet

Hi there. I’ve been doing some water-colouring with the Arteza Real Brush Pens – one of those products I thought I’d try………..and loving the colours:

I first stamped the Waffle Flower Bouquet Builder 5 and embossed with gold, then took 4 or 5 of the blue Arteza pens and played around……. I also tried with black embossing, and white embossing – just so I could try the pens out and play around – but I liked the gold embossing the best.

I used the Waffle Flower micro grid as a background again, but this time left all the little squares inside – I only lost one of them (which is behind the flower), and then framed this with the Hero Arts Infinity Wood frame largest rectangle.

The sentiment is from Mama Elephant and stuck to the bottom of the card base.
