Polychromos Poinsettia

Hello everyone. Another few cards from playing at the weekend. This time I have been using my Faber-Castell Polychromos. I have never used them before, so again I went searching through the YouTube videos. There are some absolutely amazing creations out there…….and then there are my simple little creations!

I had the idea of colouring a poinsettia flower from watching Yana Smakula recently, and loved how her blue poinsettias turned out. I wanted to try blue, but then turned to other colours, just so I could practice.

The flower stamp if from Which Craft!, bought at their craft show a couple of weeks back. I bought it specifically because it had a lot of open space I could get to colouring, and experimenting.

I stamped the flower several times on black card stock, and embossed with white, copper, and silver. I wanted to see what different they made to the finished project. As you can see, I didn’t just use red. I was playing, and experimenting with blending and shading, so much so that I actually spent a good couple of hours doing these.

I used three colours of the red, yellow, and green, and blended, and layered, and blended again. I’m not sure if it is the right way to do things, but I like how they turned out. I can’t decide which is my favourite, though – what do you think? Which would your favourite be?

(By-the -way – does this hand look creepy or not?)

I shall be entering one of these cards into the following challenges:

Hello again, everyone. This is my last full day in Quebec, and I will be travelling home to UK tomorrow evening, arriving early hours Tuesday morning. I have had a great time here with my sister and her husband, lots of chilling, good food, getting out and about a little, but also some card making. My idea of a relaxing holiday if not going to the beach.

This card is for the Color Throwdown Challenge, to use the colours hot pink, yellow, and lime green. I love to make cards with flowers – can you tell? – and found this stamp set from Imagination Crafts in my sister’s stash. I don’t have any of their stamps, and was immediately taken by the design and outline of the flowers. I stamped them several times, in different layouts, and played with colours and layouts.

This card is one I made where I stamped the flower outlines then masked them off, stamped the leaves and then the dots, and coloured them in the challenge colours. I didn’t go for any fancy colouring or shading, as I think these stamps lend themselves to a more solid colour. Having seen the Herge (creator of Tintin) exhibition in Quebec earlier this week, I thought I would take a leaf out of his very experienced book!! Apparently, he rarely did any shading, and used block colours most of the time. We learn something new every day………..

Once I had coloured the flowers, I added three lines at the top of the card using my score board – an little extra but plain interest – and stamped a sentiment in Versafine black onyx ink.

I may have time to create another card to post tomorrow before I leave Canada, but if not it will be Tuesday when I post my fourth and final card as Guest Designer for CAS Colours and Sketches.

Pencil colouring

Hi everyone. I’ve tried another technique with this card. As hubby says – ‘you’re always trying new techniques‘……as if that’s a bad thing! I like to challenge myself, and sometimes it turns out alright.

The reason there are three different photos, is because I couldn’t decide which one I liked best. The outside one I thought was a bit stark, the smaller inside photo a bit dark, and the third one…….maybe ok!

I was inspired by several challenges, including Simply Less is More and AAA Cards, who have a joint challenge running for two weeks. Yes – I am almost out of time, hence this later post.

The challenge is for one layer, using a coloured card base, and clean and simple. Right. Who knew that would be so difficult to plan? Do you emboss, colour, water-colour, stamp……..the possibilities are actually endless, but knuckling down and doing it? That was my challenge for the past two weeks.

I used a Kraft card base, and stamped the outline flower from Altenew ‘Build a Flower Magnolia’ with my Ranger Perfect Medium, then set to colouring it in. I didn’t emboss the outline, I just used the guide from stamping it. I have never used the Crafters Companion pencils before. This set is not for water-colouring, but they are supposed to be good for blending. Perhaps better with a white card base, but I really like how this turned out.

It isn’t professionally perfect, but I like the effect, and may well try this out with a white card base, too. I followed the shading for the flower on the back of the stamp pack and ‘went for it’.

I used three pinks, three greens, three browns, and added an extra purple (ish) colour to get a darker impression at the base of some of the leaves.

The sentiment is also from that same stamp set, and I am liking mixing fonts when stamping, and used Versafine black onyx for this – clean and crisp.
