White Daffodil

Hello. I’m here to share a card which again took some patience -maybe I’m learning that I have some patience after all….

I chose this daffodil die in memory of my mum – who recently passed – her favourite flower:

I die cut an oval from a previous yellow ink smooshing background panel – glued flat.

The daffodil is from Simon Says Stamp, and I die cut it out of white card stock – and then the complications began…..

I wanted all the pieces to stay in the stem – which they did – and then I decided to add some dimension. I was thinking 3D foam squares, then foam pieces, then layering die cuts together…..

In the end, I stuck white card onto some foam, then die cut……..and then some of the pieces fell out of the die cut and wouldn’t go back in neatly…

I persevered, and then die cut another flower form the white card and placed it on top of it all – so one die cut piece on foam, and then another die cut piece on top of it all…..

I am sure there is a simpler way of doing this! Maybe layering die cuts together would have been the way to go – maybe I’ll try that another time……

Heartfelt Thanks

Hello. A CAS card to share today – which actually took a little longer to create than I initially thought it would:

I used a ragged looking heart die from the Concord & 9th ‘Geode’ die set – I have a few other heart dies but this jut spoke – me……..slightly uneven, and slightly ragged-looking.

Once the position on the rectangular panel was determined and then die-cut, I placed an alcohol ink background panel behind the opening, and then stamped the sentiment.

This was then layered onto a white card base using 3D foam.

Seems quite simple – but the position of the heart, the size of the alcohol ink panel – that took a few decisions and changes of decisions – goodness knows why – but it did…….maybe the hardest decisions on a CAS card is placement – it is for me, anyway.

A simple heartfelt thanks is what the message is with this card – another one for noteworthy friends for helping me the past few weeks…….

Simple Heat Embossed Vase

Hello. A very quick and ‘escapism’ playtime yesterday created this card:

I tried to capture the thickness of the embossing here – heat embossing with a Wow! powder which has a lot of depth to it – sometimes you just need something more……

Using a couple of images from the Altenew stamp set, then heat embossing, then die cutting, created the two main elements – the vase and the flower/leaf stem.

The background is a cream card stock – textured on the actual card base, then smooth side for the added layer, die cut with a stitched rectangle.

The sentiment is from the same stamp set, and stamped using a red Distress Oxide.

I’m going to be needing some ‘thank you’ cards soon and thought I’d get to creating when I can…..

Cardz 4 Galz ‘Oriental’

Hello. Dawn is hosting the new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz, and she has chosen the theme of ‘Oriental’. Here is my take on the new theme:

This actually a one layer card – I decided to do some masking and then colouring – just to keep challenging myself.

The stamps I used are from Clearly Besotted, first stamping the cute creature, then masking, and then stamping the background.

I also then masked the tree – itty bitty cutting required – and masked above and below as you see and ink blended the blue strip.

Once the masks were removed I used Copics to colour, and then stamped the sentiment.

I hope you can come and join us with your ‘Oriental’ makes – I look forward to seeing what you create.

Flowering Cactus

A quick post today to share a one layer card:

I just love that sentiment, and when coupled with the flowering cactus – I just had to buy the stamp and die set and play with it.

The set is from Memory Box, and I stamped the image onto a Neenah 110lbs card stock to reduce the amount of Copic bleed-through to the other side when I coloured it.

I kept the tones quite similar, using the colour scheme from a recent Hero Arts virtual class, and colours suggested by Daniel West.

Birthday Balloons

Hello once again. I’ve been playing some more in my craft room, and using some of the backgrounds I created a while ago – this time using an alcohol ink piece of Yupo to create this CAS card:

I used this die from MFT which cuts the balloons and the frame, and with the additional balloons provided I die cut them from the piece of Yupo paper.

The frame I stuck down with some foam strips – they were very, very sticky so I’m glad I stuck it down straight! The balloons were stuck down using wet glue…….and then I wondered what I was going to do for the sentiment – I had forgotten to stamp it before I put all the layers together. I didn’t think the Misti would help, due to the dimension, so I actually stamped using an acrylic block! Shocker! I rarely do that because I always get it wrong…..

This time, I prepped my stamp, I used a Catherine Pooler ink, and chose an outline sentiment…….and it worked! It’s always good when a plan comes together – but I was nervous of spoiling the card…….I’m glad I didn’t! It is only a few pieces of card, but still……

Happy Bird-Day

Hi there. Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge has started a new challenge for the month of September. The theme is ‘Winged Things’ – in a CAS style. I had to make a birthday card, as it’s my birthday this month – so here is my card:

For the circle I used the Concord & 9th turnabout we received as part of the their Summer Camp, using their ink cubes, and then used a stitched circle die.

The bird die is also from Concord & 9th – Birdie Talk – and using their card stock too……so it’s turned out to be a Concord & 9th card really…….

It would be great to see your CAS style cards with this current theme – I look forward to seeing you there. xx

Embossing white on Kraft

Hello. Having enjoyed some playing in my craft room, trying out new techniques, revisiting old techniques, I have a couple of cards to share today. Both are a CAS design, but the white embossing on the Kraft card really makes the images pop, I think so anyway. Here are my cards:

I took the images from Altenew ‘Wild Flora‘ stamp set, and stamped then white heat embossed. I die cut the panel down with Lawn Fawn stitched rectangles, then added to a card base.

The sentiments were also heat embossed but this time onto grey card stock, and added as you see.

I added some clear drops for some added interest, but also these don’t detract from the simplicity of the design – I don’t think.

Thinking of you makes me smile….

I have a card to share to day made with a new set of dies from Hero Arts:

I had to watch a couple of videos on their web site to get the hang of making this card, and it took a while to put it together – mainly because I wanted to add the frame around the outside and I had to fiddle with a knife and a couple of square dies because they just weren’t the right size. My Misti cut-align tool came in very handy for that…

The layers were all die cut out of white card, then coloured with Copics to match the current challenge colours at Color Throwdown.

The background is a water-colour piece of card I used Distress Inks on:

I have a couple of other ‘looking glass’ dies from Hero Arts, and now I think I’ve figured it out – I’ll go and have a play with them.

Crocodile Cheers

Hello, hello, hello……..I new challenge has started at Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge. The theme for this is ‘Bottoms Up‘……

Here is my card:

The images are from Heffy Doodle, stamped with Gina K Amalgam ink, coloured with Copics, then die cut using their matching die.

I tried to add some interest and dimension to parts of the crocodile using a technique recently learned from taking a Jenn Shurkus class – yes – yet another! Using one of the lighter greens to create some dots – the alcohol in the Copic almost bleaches the parts you touch with your nib……..varying sizes depending on how much pressure I exerted.

The sentiment is from Catherine Pooler and this time stamped before I added the dimensional images!

I hope you can join us – I’d love to see your CAS ‘Bottoms Up’ creations. xx
