Latte Catch-up

Hi there. The new challenge just beginning at Cardz 4 Galz has the theme of ‘Cocktails, Wine, or Coffee’.

Here is my card:

This image from MFT is one that was part of a grab-bag from Seven Hills Crafts. I usually wouldn’t have bought an image like this, but in the current situation of not being able to meet anyone – I thought it most appropriate.

Once I had stamped the image, and then coloured with Copics, I used my Scan-n-cut to cut it out – braveness ensued after I had coloured it – then added some white gel pen for highlights.

Turning my thoughts to the background, I used Altenew ‘Cozy Flannel Cover Die‘ and a base colour using some textured olive green card-stock – I think from a Tim Holtz paper pad I’ve had for yonks!

The sentiment is from the same stamp set – loving the font of this…..

I hope you can come and join us for this challenge, it would be fabulous to see your creations which match our theme. Please bear in mind our theme…………….there have been quite a few recent entries which don’t fit the bill…………..

Never Far apart…..

I new challenge is starting at The Alphabet Challenge, Having reached the letter ‘T’, Veronika has chosen the theme of ‘TRAFFIC’. I struggled a little with this theme, but eventually came up with this card:

I knew I wanted a few cars, and I knew I wanted that sentiment, but it took me quite a while to figure out what I was doing. I didn’t have appropriate car stamps or dies, so I used some ingenuity……

I used the ‘Destination Christmas‘ stamp and die set from Newton’s Nook……….I put the images on my Misti, masked the top of the cars where there are Christmas Trees and presents, stamped, then drew in the lines with a fine liner…………I was quite pleased with how they turned out.

Once coloured with Copics, and die cut with the matching dies, I fussy-cut the top to get the cars the way I wanted them.

Now for the background scene – Mama Elephant cloud die from their ‘Slim Card Basics‘ die set, and the Lawn Fawn ‘Road Border‘ cut twice to get the tarmac and then the grass verge. I did think about cutting a proper grassy verge – but the rest of the card is quite ‘clean’, so I kept it as you see.

The blue background is a textured light blue, almost a leathery texture, which I felt quite fit having as a sky.

And this time I remembered to stamp the sentiment before putting the card together!

I hope you can come and join us with your ‘Traffic’ creations – I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Big Hugs Z Fold

Hello. A new challenge has started at Cardz 4 Galz. I wanted to get the year started with virtual hugs and to be able to let someone know I was thinking of them. The theme is ‘more than one fold’, chosen by Billie A:

I played around with some fancy fold cards, and even made another card for the challenge – but I wasn’t happy with it. This is Take 2…..

I made a ‘Z’ fold card – white card base – and added some Stampin Up ‘Peaceful Poppies‘ DSP – which I’ve had for ages and just never got around to using. I wanted to add some of the embellishments which came with this series – but they seem to have been ‘filed’ where I can’t find them!

Once the card and the paper layers were stuck down, I decided to add some simple die-cut sentiments in black – so they can stand out against this patterned paper.

Both the die-cut sentiments are from Lawn Fawn. The ‘Big Hugs’ in the middle of the card is white heat embossed onto black card, layered several times before being stuck down so you can see the ‘hugs’ when the card is closed, but ‘Big Hugs’ when the card is open.

Thinking about you’ is also Lawn Fawn – but it is very fine, and I found it a little too fiddly to layer it up, so stuck down with one layer only after die cutting.

I hope you can come and join us – and educate me into the various ways we can introduce more than one fold in our creations. xx

Snow Globe Scene

Hi there. A new challenge is beginning at The Alphabet Challenge. We have reached the letter ‘S’ – and we want to see your ‘snow scenes’. Here is my card:

I decided to choose a small snow scene from a Mama Elephant stamp set, and then stamped a snow globe around it.

Coloured with Copics, I then added some clear shimmer the the sky and snow – leaving the house free to see.

I die cut the globe, then added some glossy accents to the banner to give the impression of a metal plaque – hopefully…….

Two layers dry embossed with an embossing folder – I think is Sue Wilson but I’m not exactly sure – then added some extra bling with some sequins.

I hope you can come and join us for our ‘Snow Scene’ theme – I look forward to seeing what you create. xx

Rainy Day Hippos

Hello. I have a slimline card to share for the new challenge at The Alphabet Challenge, and the new theme of ‘R’ for Rainbow:

I enjoyed making this card, though there are a lot of elements to it.

I began by stamping the hippo, duck and puddle images from Clearly Besotted, coloured with Copics, and used the matching die set to cut them out. I know this is an older stamp set, as Clearly Besotted don’t produce matching dies any more….

The base card is using Concord & 9th cardstock to match the colours of the Copics I used, and the white layer is scalloped circles from Pinkfresh Studio.

I thought the area behind each window was a little too plain, so I used a matching ink colour and an umbrella stencil from Clearly Besotted to create a muted background.

All stuck down as you see – and some matching little sequins added – they were just kinda sitting there on my craft desk – I think I have a thing for teal/aqua colours………

The sentiment is from the same stamp set – adding the ‘rainbow’ theme to the card, even though now picture of rainbows – I thought out of the box…!

I hope you can come and join us for this challenge with your ‘rainbow’ themed creations – I look forward to seeing what you create. xx

ABC Christmas Challenge Y and Z

Hello. A new challenge is beginning at ABC Christmas Challenge. There were almost 300 entries for the last challenge, from which I had to choose only a few winners (very, very difficult), and I hope you can return for this new challenge.

This time we want to see your ‘Y’ Christmas as ‘Your Favourite Things‘, and/or your ‘Z‘ Christmas creations with ‘ZZZZZ – A Sleeping Image’. I chose a sleeping image:

I have been wanting to colour this image for ages, and finally got around to doing it.

Once stamped onto Make It Colour Blending card stock in Gina K amalgam ink, I used a range of Copics to colour and shade as you see.

I used a sentiment from a Clearly Besotted stamp set – ‘Drink and be Merry’ – adding as a banner across the lower third. Why did I place it there – I certainly hear you asking – because I went out the line of the tail of the ribbon with my red Copic – no going back from that…….so it had to be covered up………

I hope you can come and join us in this next challenge and I hope to see you there. xx

Pawfect Christmas

Hi there. Another challenge has started at Cardz 4 Galz and it’s my time to host. I chose the theme of ‘Cute Christmas’. Here is my card:

I chose a couple of stamp sets from Clearly Besotted and a little masking of the dog to get him curled up in front of the fire. The mantlepiece snow-globe and snowman were also added from the scene stamp set.

Once stamped, coloured with Copics, and using a stitched rectangle to cut the panel out.

I think the two background papers are also from Clearly Besotted, usually as part of their release bundle – and they matched the colours I used to colour – not planned at all!

There are some really cute Christmas cards from the Design Team, and I hope you will check them out – and come and join us. I look forward to seeing what your Cute Christmas creations will be. xx

A Mice Time To Party

Hello everyone. The Alphabet Challenge is celebrating 10 years of challenges – 10 years!!!!! I’m a veritable new-comer to this challenge – only being around on the DT since August 2019 – but I’m certainly in the mood for celebrating.

As we have reached the letter ‘P’, we want to see your ‘Party’ themed creations. Here is my card:

I seem to be stuck in the slim line, die-cutting, Copic colouring, scene creating genre – but I do like creating these types of cards. There is so much room to play with.

Using MFT ‘It’s A Mice Time’ stamps and matching dies, coloured in Copics – I knew I wanted to use ALL the images from this set – I then turned to creating the scene. I used a lot of die-sets from Mama Elephant and Lawn Fawn – and it took me quite a while to figure things out – but here we have it.

I am quite pleased with the end product – a joyful celebration to be had.

Hopefully, at some time in the near future we can all celebrate together – fingers crossed!

Come along and celebrate with us – there’s a lot of party themed creations from the Design team – I look forward to seeing what you create in our gallery. xx

Cardz 4 Galz – Silver and/or Gold

Hello. A new challenge is starting at Cardz 4 Galz, and this time we want to see your girlie makes using silver and/or gold. Here is my card:

I knew I wanted to use both gold and silver and was trying to decide how to do that. Until I did, I stamped and die-cut the roses and leaves from Altenew ‘Antique Roses‘. The roses using four blue layers, but for the leaves, I stamped the base layer in a brown, then I heat embossed the second layer using gold embossing powder. I didn’t do the third layer on the leaves.

I went hunting for some different leaves, and used some from Altenew ‘Budding Thanks‘ – again using a brown base layer and heat embossing the second layer.

I still didn’t know how I was going to incorporate silver – until me eyes fell into my ‘newbi’ basket, (bought not used or catalogued yet) and I saw the Pink Fresh Studio ‘Slim Diagonal Stripes die’. Although it is sized for the slimline card – I cut it down to create the middle section you see here – and used a matt silver instead of a shiny silver card stock.

I went searching though my Color My Life app for the word ‘gorgeous’ as I wanted a striking sentiment to match the quite dramatic card, and decided to use this sentiment from Catherine Pooler – in my stash – and thankfully catalogued into the app – so heat embossed in the same gold as the leaves.

I hope you can come and join us for this challenge – I foresee a lot of shiny Christmas cards in the making – I hope to see you there. xx

ABC Christmas Challenge – ‘W’ and ‘X’

Hello there. I am hosting the new challenge at ABC Christmas Challenge for the letters ‘W’ and ‘X’. The theme chosen for these letters are ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Xtra Special’.

I have a prize on offer for the winner – chosen by a random generator – so every entry has a chance to win:

Thirsty Brush and Co – stamp and die set – Home For Christmas

You can enter as many times as you like – as long as you follow the winter/Christmas holidays or festivals – and you have followed the theme for the current letters.

Here are my cards:

Winter Wonderland
Xtra Special

Both of these cards are a combination of ink-blending, die-cutting and adding glittery stuff, with the second card also including some Copic colouring.

The Winter Wonderland card is utilising the new die set from Tim Holtz – Colorize Holiday Village – but changing the colour of my village to two shades of red instead of brown – I wanted a brighter look to the card. I did have to watch YouTube to figure out what to glue where – and in what order!

I added some mountains behind the village and an ink blended sky – which actually came about quite by mistake……. I did the ink blending, then used a Lawn Fawn stencil and some glitter paste to try and create some stars – but when I took the stencil up it moved and scraped along the sky. I tried to take the glitter paste up with a spatula – but it just swept the glitter across the sky………my idea of a happy accident. A very glittery sky now, with the distress inks showing some of the stars anyway. Oh yeah!

The Xtra Special card was also ink blending, but with Distress Oxides – two red colours and Wilted Violet along the edges to darken them. I liked the look of the violet so much, I used that as the main colour for my characters. Purple penguin and bird anyone!

I decided to add some white acrylic splatter to the background, and then also added some white gel pen into the areas which I thought looked a little open.

There is some glitter and sparkle on this card too – once I have the stuff out then I’m gonna use ’em! Nuvo drops on all the itsy bitsy tiny tree lights, sparkle pen on the other baubles and the snow on the lodge – oh, and the pompoms on the hats too.

I hope you can come and join us – it’s getting closer to the time when we have to think about what Christmas cards we have and also think about sending them cards out…….I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx
