Comfort and Joy

Hello there. The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge has started a new challenge. As always, the theme is ‘anything goes Christmas‘. Here is my card:

I dry embossed and white piece of card then splattered it with a bronze metallic acrylic paint. Whilst that was drying, I die cut and assembled the poinsettia and the added foliage, splattering the poinsettia with the same bronze paint.

I then die cut a square into a panel that was slightly smaller than my card base, added the splattered embossed piece behind the opening, then arranged the flower and foliage as you see.

The sentiment is a previously foiled strip.

I am hoping you can join us and start to create your Christmas card stash ready for the end of the year. xx

Poinsettia and Holly

Hello. I created this card using Spellbinders dies, using colours from a previous challenge – but I liked how the colours worked together so I played with them again:

Behind a die cut square aperture, I placed a dry embossed panel which had been splattered with a copper acrylic paint from Liquitex.

I then die cut the poinsettia – putting more layers with it for a fuller look, die cut some ferns from green card stock, and the holly leaves and mistletoe from gold card stock.

I played around with the arrangement a little, and glued when I was happy.

The sentiment is a previously gold foiled one from Spellbinders.

Here is a picture of the shine from the foiling and gold card stock:

I am absolutely loving the gold card stock from Spellbinders at the moment, and can’t seem to stop using it. You have to make sure that your cutting plates are quite new – you do get some marks on the card if the die cut is large and plain enough…….ask me how I know….!

As an aside – I mentioned on a previous post that the ‘Color My Life’ app – which I used to catalogue my stash – was broken for a few days. It now works, the updates have been sorted and I can see and search from this again – I was really quite shocked how dependent I was on this app. I search for things for challenges – colours, or animals, or tags I have inserted myself. It has saved me buying the same thing twice a few times, but just the ability to be able to ‘look’ through my stash for items I know I have – but forget who made them, or where I’ve stored them – it really is a great way to organise electronically.

Feathery Birthday

Hello there. The November Happy Little Stampers atg Birthday Challenge is now live. Here is my card:

The background panel was created by splattering some Liquitex metallic acrylic paint in gold and black onto a white panel. When this was dry, I created the black layer and then die cut the white panel using Gina K Designs Master Layouts.

The feathers – also Gina K Designs – were die cut from some previously created ink smooshed and mica sprayed panels. After they were arranged onto the card base, I added a die cut ‘happy’ along with it’s shadow layer, stamped ‘birthday’ matted that with black, then added some gold faceted gems.

I hope you can come and join us with your birthday creations. xx

Shimmery Golden Merry Christmas

The next Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge is now live. Here is my card:

The background is an ink smooshed creation – lots of different green Distress Inks – multiple layers – so much fun to create.

Once that had dried, I splattered Liquitex acrylic metallic ink in gold and white and let that dry.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts, the shadow in vellum, and the main words in Spellbinders matt gold card stock. If the shimmer on the background wasn’t enough – I also dotted some iridescent sequins around.

This is certainly a very shimmery card and so much fun to create. I feel another ‘messy’ play coming on to create more backgrounds – even though I have plenty – but I just love to play and ink smoosh instead of always feeling I have to create a card.
