CAS Birthday

Hello again. I’m venturing into the CAS genre again – a struggle for me as I do like dimension and embossing folders and gems – all the things, really. Whether this is a true CAS card – with die cuts and wax seal – it certainly is for me…… :)

This was really quick to put together, as I had the bluebells and lilac pieces from The Greetery already made from a previous session, as well as the wax seal.

I placed the florals, adding wet glue to the base of their stems only, then glued down the wax seal to cover the bottom of the stems.

The wax seal from Spellbinders says ‘Happy Birthday’ – difficult to photograph with this colour. I could have used some gold or white pen to highlight the words, but I like to simplicity as it is.

Get Well Wishes

Hello everyone. A little time to play in my craft room today, inspired initially by Time Out Challenges and their ‘pick two’ list, die cutting and using an embossing folder – my favourite way to create, and my happy zone:

The die set used for the floral and the circle frame are from Spellbinders. The die set was part of their Weekender from 2024. I haven’t played with this diet set yet, so I thought it was time.

The circle and frame is supposed to be an embroidery hoop – but I left it at a framed circle, using some circle nesting dies from Hero Arts to create the slightly larger frame in red, then cutting the die again, out of white glitter card to give the slightly smaller frame – glued to the larger red circle – and the white glitter inner circle.

The florals were all die cut and assembled separately, and set to one side, whilst I used a light pink card stock panel and ran it through with a Spellbinders embossing folder, a small edge of black, then attached to a white card base.

The hoop was assembled then glued down, the flowers arranged how I wanted them, and as I though I needed something to cover the bottom of the stems, I used a previously created wax seal. The final step was to add the white foiled sentiment.

Feathered Birthday

Hello again. I have a card to share for the new challenge which has just started at The Alphabet Challenge. Vicki is hosting, and having reached the letter ‘F‘, she has chosen the theme of ‘feathers‘. Here is my card:

This card turned out to be very technique based. I didn’t plan it that way, it is just the way things happened – and I quite enjoyed the process.

I started by creating the ink well, a layering stamp from The Greetery. This was die cut, and the label for the ink well stamped then die cut, layered on top of the ink bottle.

The feather is a die cut from Waffle Flower, then ink blended the layers to create the mottled effect on the feathers – then going over very lightly to take some of the whiteness off. The nib as die cut and glued down.

The wax seal is from Spellbinders, using their wax, then the flowers and sentiment on the seal was coloured with gold using a gold paint pen from Crafters Companion.

Then I turned to creating the background panel. I thought a postage die would fit in with the quill and pen, so I used an old Catherine Pooler die for that panel, die cut out of a light grey card stock. I added another layer of light grey card stock on top which had been die cut with a stitched detail around the edge.

The written details were added using a slightly darker grey ink and a Spellbinders press plate. I cannot remember how I did the darker grey rim around the edge of this panel………

All layers were added to the white card base using either glue or 3D foam when I was happy with the layout.

I hope you can come and join us with your creations featuring feathers. xx

For You…..

Hello there. I have had a little of a crafty funk this week, finding it difficult to create anything. I decided to sort out some of my craft room, add some new products to the CML app so I can keep track of them – which led me to find the wax seal kit my sister bought for me for Christmas 2022……that’s right, Christmas 2022 – and I have never played with it.
I decided the time was right, so I had a play – and it is very addictive I must say. I think I created at least 15 wax seals, and I used a couple on this card:

I created some wax seals, then remembered a Yana Smakula video where she added the seals to some die cuts, so this is the result of my experiment with that technique.

I die cut some bluebells and other foliage from a couple of The Greetery die sets, and created the blooms, then placed them on the mat ready for the seal, added the wax, then the seal – and waited.

Once the wax had cooled, I removed the seal, and though the seal had trapped the die cuts quite well, you could see the stems through the seal. I was considering just adding more wax and sealing again, but instead I added another seal on top.

I knew I had the wax seal ribbon die so I hunted that out, die cut that in green, and added to the rear of the wax seal and flowers. The woodgrain card stock is from Lawn Fawn which I’ve had for ages, so that was used for the panel which the ribbon die could wrap around, then added to the white card base.

I find I am always a little late to try new ways of adding to my card making, but – like the hot foiling – this wax seal technique is going to be one of my favourites I think.
