Gift Tag Scene

Hello once again. I have a good excuse to play in my craft room due to the sever weather we are having. I created a few gift tags. I wanted to use my Altenew embossing paste, and found it was useable – I have had it for quite a while – but I needed to use it up pretty pronto. I took a whole host of tags and stencilled a lot of them with several stencils I had, and set them all aside to dry overnight.

Today I created this tag:

This manila tag I left the top part unshaded, and used the Brutus Monroe ‘Starry Night‘ stencil with the Altenew embossing paste, then used the paste to create a thick and uneven bottom to it. I wanted this bottom to look like a snowfall – all the ridges and peaks. This was left to dry overnight.

The houses were created using Spellbinders ‘Mantle Village‘ die set, card stock from Concord & 9th and Heffy Doodle. The houses have a second whole layer behind the front so I could piece back in the windows, using Spellbinders brushed gold card stock, or replacing the grey ones. I pictured some rooms with lights on, and some rooms without – that sounded good in my head, anyway!

I am more partial to gold, silver less so, and really do not like to use glitter. I don’t mind glitter card stock – but glitter in it’s loose form – no thank you. I find it too messy, and difficult to control.

The trees were die cut and assembled, and as the Altenew paste was now dry, I created my scene. The houses and trees adhered as you see with a mixture of wet glue and a little 3D foam behind to top of the upper two houses.

It was then I found out the bottom paste was not completely dry – even left overnight – I must really have put a thick layer down there – so some of the white paste found it’s way onto a tree or two – darn those mucky fingers…..I decided to carry on and finish anyway.

I added some Pinkfresh Studio glitter gems – these gems are silver and gold but I do like how they sparkle.

The finishing touch was to add a red ribbon from my stash.

It was only when creating this post did I realise a little red bit of fluff from the ribbon had found it’s way onto the bottom of the tag – that paste is a magnet, I truly think it is…..!

I had a house left over, so used it on this smaller tag – very simple – paste through he same stencil, paste on the bottom to create the hill, house and trees adhered, and some little gems to fit in-between the stencilled stars:

Guest Designer Creative Artiste Mixed Media

Hello there. I was thoroughly pleased and excited to be offered a chance to be Guest Designer at the new Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge, when THIS card was chosen as winner by their Design Team.

The theme is always ‘anything goes mixed media’. Here is my creation:

I started by creating the background by using a snowflake stencil from Funky Fossil and Distress Texture paste in ‘Sparkle’. This set off to one side to dry and I then moved to creating some panels with Colorsparx watercolour powders in red and green – these were then set to dry, and for the other foliage, I created some panels using Distress Inks and Distress Mica sprays.

I already had an ink smooshed panel of lighter brown and dark splatters which I dug out ready to use.

Once all the panels were dry, I used Tim Holtz ‘Holiday Brushstroke 3‘ die set for the poinsettia and leaves, Spellbinders gold card stock for the centre of the poinsettia, and Sizzix ‘Buds and Branches‘ for the other foliage. The layers of the poinsettia glued together, and the edges with a Brutus Monroe Tricolour ink pad for more shadow.

The snowflake panel a was adhered to a square card base, and the floral and foliage images around to my satisfaction then attached with either 3D foam pieces or glue.

Some snow effect was added splattering Liquitex acrylic iridescent ink in white and gold, a foiled sentiment attached, and then some Pinkfresh Studio ombre glitter drops – I do like sparkly gems.

I absolutely loved creating this project. Mixed media is quite scary for me, but I have found that if I just go with my gut – it usually turns out reasonably good.

I hope you can have a go yourself and join the challenge this time round. xx

Be Merry

Hello everyone. I wanted a little messy play today, so created this mixed media card:

There are times when I do want to get my fingers dirty, and times when I don’t mind waiting for things to dry. This card took me a couple of days to create for that reason – drying time.

I started with the background panel and applied some white gesso. I then used a couple of Distress Sprays – Peeled Paint and Weathered Wood, also adding extra water and let them flow around. Not to cover every inch of the background, just to add some colour.

I dried this with the heat gun, then took some Nuvo Glacier paste and a spatula and smeared it around. No rhyme or reason, and leaving some chunkier areas. I also used a snowflake stencil and applied some ink through that for the larger background snowflake, another stencil and added some gold and some silver glitter paste dots. Mores mearing with glitter paste on top of all this, then more splatters of teal ink.

Whilst this panel was drying I turned to the die cuts. The poinsettia leaves were cut using purple card stock, and several layered together to give a fuller flower, then silver glitter paste spread across the leaves for shimmer and shine.

The leaves are actually a snow flake die – the large Snowflake Card Creator. The leaves are actually a snowflake die – the large snowflake card creator from Spellbinders/Bibi Cameron. This die was used on a dark teal card stock, then some glitter paste dragged across the whole thing whilst before the die cut was removed.

To create the finished panel – which I did the following day, allowing everything to dry fully – I added the large snowflake to the top left corner with collage medium. The poinsettia leaves were plumped and shaped a little, then added with collage medium again. When the glue had dried, I cut the snowflake arms which were sticking off the edge.

The final touches were some gold glitter to the centre of the flower, and a foiled sentiment from Lawn Fawn.

I created a few more panels using most of the same products and colours, just slight variations:

As you all probably know by now, I don’t have a particular style for my cards. I’ll have a go at most things – but I do gravitate towards die cutting and perhaps embossing folders more than anything else – these were fun…. xx

Peace On Earth

Hi there. Another creation to share using the ‘found’ Tim Holtz ephemera:

This is another 5×7 inch card base, with a Kraft piece on top, the edges distressed with some brown Distress Ink.

I also used some Tim Holtz papers, distressing that edge too, and adhered to the card base.

I took another of the Tim Holtz base board pieces, distressed the edge with brown, the used a Tim Holtz stencil to put some glitter paste through parts of the leaves I wanted. Then added the sparkle paste around the edges of the base board.

I used a couple of the sentiment strips from Tim Holtz ephemera pack distressed the edges again with brown, then glued them both down.

Using a snowflake stencil, I mixed some sparkle paste and brown Distress Ink and created some ‘dirty’ snowflakes which would show through the aperture. The poinsettia image was glued down, and then the baseboard added.

The sentiment board – also distressed with brown ink – was glued with collage medium, and the final touch was the bell image – glued to the top of the aperture.

Another creation which was a lot of fun, out of my comfort zone – but I went with it.

O is for Ocean Animals

Hello once again. I am hosting the new challenge at The Alphabet Challenge. Having reached the letter ‘O‘, I chose the theme of:

O is for Ocean animals

Here is my card:

I first created the background panel by taking a light blue panel of card stock, then a Brutus Monroe stencil and ink blending some purple stars and dots. I then splattered white and gold shimmery acrylic paint.

This panel was then put aside to dry whilst I die cut the whale and jellyfish from Spellbinders.

Placing the whale at the top of the panel, I then played with placement of the jellyfish. These are interactive/dancing jellyfish, so I made sure to place the tentacles in such a position that they didn’t get stuck on each other when moving.

I then placed a little 3D foam circle in the middle of the tentacle layer, and stuck down the top – the umbrella of the jellyfish.

The sentiment was die cut and added as you see.

I hope you can come and join us with your creations featuring ocean animals. xx

Just A Note

Hello. I have a card to share using some products from several recent virtual craft events:

I started by stencilling the word. The layering stencils are from Taylored Expressions, and there are four layers, with three words when it is finished. I chose to use ‘just a note’, and the other two sentiments are ‘hooray’ and ‘hey’. I will use those on future cards I am sure. I chose four Pinkfresh Studio inks – yellow, orange, a lighter and then a darker pink.

I used the matching dies to cut out the words, then also used another three layers of white card stock behind to create a thicker sentiment.

I chose a Kraft card base, and onto that I layered a couple of frames created using a Pinkfresh Studio dies set from their recent event, and die cut out of Concord & 9th ‘Briar Rose‘ card stock.

I fiddles and faffed with the layers, insetting a white panel then adding the smaller frame, and insetting a smaller Kraft panel.

Once all adhered, I added some Spellbinders gems for a finishing touch.

Our internet woes may have been solved – fingers crossed – and I can catch up on some recent virtual events and play with the new products. xx

Thinking of You

Hello everyone. Cardz 4 Galz has started a new challenge, and the new theme has been chosen by Debbie. We want to see your ‘squares, or a square card‘. Here is my make:

Starting with a square card base, I used the stencil you see and ink blended some light pinks to create more interest in the background.

The four squares are from a Uniko stamp set, stamped, coloured with Copics, then die cut with a nesting square die.

These squares were then added with a thin 3D foam tape, and a foiled sentiment added in the centre.

I hope you can come and join us with your creations featuring squares – or a square card base. xx

We Flock Together

Hello everyone. I am the host for the new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz, and I have chosen the theme of ‘birds’. Here is my card:

I went with a tropical theme using Spellbinders products for a bright and colourful card.

The background is ink blending using a stencil, and a couple of blue inks. On top of the panel, I created a band of vellum, which I had embossed using a Spellbinders embossing folder – thankfully the vellum didn’t crack….!

The bird layers were die cut from Spellbinders and Concord & 9th card stock, layered, glued and attached the the vellum with 3D foam. The top bird slightly off the top to also be used as an anchor for the top of the vellum band.

The sentiment was simply stamped and then the strip trimmed down. This was also attached with 3D foam, and by adhering it to the bottom of the vellum it was another point that the vellum could be anchored.

Looking at this photo I can see I didn’t poke out some of the belly dots on the lime green bird – oh well – added interest… :)

I hope you can come and join us with your bird themed creations – I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Snowflake Kisses

Hello once again. The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge has finished their summer break and we start another challenge. The theme is always ‘anything goes Christmas’. Here is my card:

The blue star background was created using a new product from Uniko. An ink and flip stencil. I did have to watch YouTube videos made by the owner – Bev – to get my head around it.

I used one shade of blue Distress Oxide, and by flipping the stencil and ink blending again, you get the different tones, and the snowflake shape. I still have no idea how it works – but it does. There are a few of the ink and flip stencils on the web site, and I did buy a couple of them, so I’ll be playing with them at some point.

Once the background snowflake was done, I decided to heat emboss some snowflakes on top. I did make sure the inked panel was completely dry before doing this, of course.

I randomly stamped the snowflakes in the background – no rhyme or reason – and used a silver embossing powder.

The snowflake panel was cut with Gina K Master Layouts, a black layer added, and then adhered to the card base.

The foiled sentiment was also layered with black, and adhered flat to the panel.

I hope you can come and join us with your Christmas themed creations. xx

Soak Up The Sun

Hello once again. The Alphabet Challenge has reached the letter ‘H‘, and Helen has chosen the theme of:

H is for Holidays – summer or Christmas in July

Here is my card:

This die set and stencil were part of a virtual class hosted by Spellbinders, and I thought would suit the summer theme for this challenge. Though we haven’t had much of a summer in the UK, and it is still raining, it did give ne hope that we could have some warmer weather soon……

The background is ink blending through the stencil, a rainbow kinda look using only three colours of ink, but ensuring they overlapped to create a five colour look. This panel was cut down a little and glued straight to the 5×7 inch card base.

The elements for the glass and scene were die cut and glued down, and the umbrella and cherries and added. That’s why I chose a larger card base, as I wanted to get the height for the added elements.

I tried the glass against the background panel, and felt it got lost in the colours, so I added a plain white oval.

The sentiment was stamped then die cut using a stitched rectangle.

I hope you can come and join us with your holiday themed creations – summer or Christmas in July. xx
