Birthday Peony

Hello. I have a card to share using some die sets from Honey Bee Stamps:

I wanted to use the three colours for the current Color Throwdown Challenge and was stumped. I mentioned the colours to a friend of mine, and she instantly said ‘peony’…….I searched the Color My Life app for what peony items I had (quiet a few actually) and this die set just spoke to me.

I ink blended a panel of Distress White Heavystock with Spun Sugar Distress Ink – keeping it quite light, and not being too perfect – and die cut the leaf from that due set twice.

On another panel I die cut the flower layers first, then ink blended the Tattered Rose Distress Ink afterwards – I wanted to vary how strong, how blended, and how smooth I wanted the blending to be, depending on which part of the flower showed when all layered together.

I die cut three of the ‘Lovely Layers Heart Vine’ outlines and arranged them behind the rose and leaves:

Once I had the placement I wanted, I used some ‘Press’n’seal’ to pick the whole arrangement up and attach 3D foam to the back, and then stick down. The leaves were not stuck down any other way and left loose to give even more dimension.

I stamped the sentiment then used the matching die to cut it out, and arranged as you see.

I also added some enamel dots to the top right corner.

Black and White Hug

The Alphabet Challenge has started a new challenge, and as we have reached the letter ‘B’, Veronica has chosen the theme of ‘Black and White’. Here is my card:

The base panel is embossed using a Spellbinders embossing folder – a lovely deep impression of all those flowers.

Into the centre I attached a die cut circle = also from Spellbinders, and part of the Maker Mania 5 kit we received. I layered that with couple of other circles – alternating black and white, then added sentiment.

The butterflies were stamped and die cut and added as you see.

I also added some faceted black gems in the four corners.

Ready to do some gardening…..?

Hello. I have a CAS card to share today, using an older Sizzix die set:

I searched the tags in the ‘Color My Life’ app for any of my products with ‘garden’. Quite a few came up – I use tags a lot – and this older Sizzix die set came up. I am sure many of us are preparing and planning our gardens at this time of year – what to plant and where – and as I was searching for our wheelbarrow a few days ago, this die set seemed to speak to me.

I used a selection of different coloured card stock for the pots and watering can, with a silver framed wheelbarrow. The sentiment if from Spellbinders.

I was going to attach the die cuts to the base card, but I felt it needed a little something behind it, so I ink blended some blue that was left on my blending brush, then ink blended again using a stencil for some darker areas.

Although there are layers to this card, I feel they are clean layers, and therefore give an overall clean effect.

Hello. The new Holly and Ivy Christmas challenge has started. Here is my card:

I have used a collection of die cuts from several companies to create this card. Lots of die cutting and assembling, but I enjoyed the process.

The card base and the snowflake design was created using die cuts and matching embossing folder from Simon Says Stamp (Refined Snowflakes) – die cutting and embossing the snowflakes, and adding them randomly around the background panel with wet glue to give dimension.

The sledge, ice skates, flowers and greenery are from Spellbinders – die cut, layered, and added as you see.

The sentiment was die cut into the banner, then die cut again with silver, and the letters pieced back into the banner.

It’s Your Bird-day

Some messy in smooshing play this morning with Distress Oxides and Distress Sprays, in order to create this card:

I used the two pink Distress Oxides you see in the picture to create two panels from which I die cut the Simon Says Stamp bird. I layered the darker and the lighter pink to create some dimension.

The background is a Simon Says Stamp embossing folder, which I cut down and layered with a black panel.

The branch is die cut from an ink smooshed panel too – using Rusty Hinge Distress Ink – and the green branches are from yet another ink sprayed panel using Rustic Wilderness. The branches are from Gummiapan and Charlie and Paulchen.

The sentiment is from the Spellbinders Advent Calendar from last year, a debossed sentiment, which is difficult to see in the photo – better in real life – but here is a close up:

I’m trying out a way of photographing my cards to try and make them appear better. The card is raised on a Distress Ink pad to create some shadow, and I have added three of the items I used to make to card – a triangle as it were…I’m not sure if I’ve got the hang of it yet, but I’ll keep trying…..

Bunny Birthday

Hello. Some crafty time yesterday created this card:

I have been wanting to play with this cute little bunny from Spellbinders since I bought it, and was able to match the cute critter to a few challenges.

I die cut the bunny from white, and as the eyes and nose stayed in place, I coloured the eyes with a black Copic, and the nose with a pink. I used the same pink Copic on the die cuts for the belly and inner ears. I layered them up and put to one side to dry.

The base panel was cut, then scored in quarter inch diagonals on my scoreboard, and adhered to a white card base.

The oval and the layer on top is from Spellbinders, and adhered with 3D foam.

I then die cut the flowers – also from Spellbinders – layered them together, then placed them around the oval.

Once the die cut sentiment was stuck down, and the bunny was adhered, I felt there was something missing, so I added the cute little envelope for the bunny to hold.

I was tempted to add some sequins or gems – but I think there is enough gold shine happening.

Hello once again. We have reached the letter ‘Z’ on The Alphabet Challenge. I am hosting this time round, and the theme is ‘anything related to the Zodiac’ There are lots of options for this challenge – any of the animals, girl/woman, weighing scales, water, air etc. Here is my card:

This layering set of dies if from Hero Arts, one of the Looking Glass’ die sets. I struggle with these, despite watching YouTube videos time and again – it just doesn’t stick in my head – but it doesn’t stop me buying and using them……I just go with what works for me.

All of the layers were die cut from white card stock, then each layer coloured with tones of blue or teal. The fishes were coloured with orange Copics.

The background is a Hero Arts stamp, a blue ink onto a light blue piece of card stock.

‘Tis The Season…..

The new Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge has now gone live, and the theme is always ‘anything goes Christmas/Festive‘. Here is my card:

I had quite a bit of messy fun creating this card – ink smooshing, die cutting, ink blending – and I like the outcome.

The background panel is a piece of ink smooshed card stock, with pink and blue Distress Inks, and when that was dry I used a Pinkfresh Studio background die.

I adhered that whole panel to the card base, then turned to the die cutting…….

The two critters are from Tim Holtz, and each piece die cut pout of an ink blended or smooshed panel. If I didn’t have the colour I wanted, I created one.

Before adding each layer, I did some more ink blending on them to make them different. All the brown pieces are from the same panel, but I ink blended a darker brown on them to create different shades – the antlers for instance.

The sentiment is also from Tim Holtz, stamped onto the same brown smooshed panel, cut out, then ink blending.

I adhered all of them with 3D foam.

X is for ‘XOXOXO’

Hello once again. The Alphabet Challenge has reached the letter ‘X’, Dawn is hosting, and we want to see your ‘XOXOXO – Hugs and Kisses’ cards. Here is my card:

Onto a Distress white heavy-stock panel I ink blended some pink Distress Oxides – I find I can blend them better than the inks – then splattered with metallic acrylic paints in gold and silver.

I took another white panel and ran through through s Spellbinders embossing folder, adhered it to a card base.

Once the ink blended and splattered panel was dry, I used a Time For Tea designs ‘Stitched Hearts’ cover die – I think you can just make out the stitched hearts around the pink edges – and also used inner rectangle to cut out the middle.

Out of that pink cut-out piece, I die cut two hearts and added them to the card as you see, and also cut out the x’s and the o’s, after putting the strip onto double-sided sticky tape, then adding them to another white strip – trying very hard to keep them aligned……

A Golden Hello

Hello there. It seems I have a thing about creating cards with birds at the moment. My two previous posts are with swans, and now I have a card with a golden dove:

Onto a white card base I adhered a red layer, then a blush pink dry embossed panel,. using a Spellbinders embossing folder. I die cut the central label shape using a Gina K Designs ‘Master Layouts‘ set, the same blush card, and layered with the same red card. I fiddled around to ensure that the central label embossing matched the background embossing – a little fiddly but I achieved what I wanted to do.

I then began die cutting……..

I used Spellbinders floral dies, and die cut them all in the blush card and white card, then decided to cut them again in a brushed gold from Spellbinders, played around with which colour for which layer, and then decided I needed a darker pink card for some of the buds on the floral pieces – and you can see what I ended up with. There was a lot of die-cutting and assembling the different colours and the different layers until I was happy.

The bird is from The Greetery, die cut using the shiny gold card from Spellbinders, and I also used the shiny gold for the sentiment, but also added three layers of white behind it to make it more substantial.

Using two different types of gold, and two different pink tones seems to work quite well – the bird still stands out as it is shiny…..

I even added some more bling using Trinity Stamps gold embellishments….
