Hugs Leafy Frame

Hello everyone. There is a new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz. Johanna is hosting, and she has chosen the theme of ‘Use Vellum’. Here is my card:

I started by ink blending the leafy frame from The Greetery, using all of the layers from the stencil set and Pinkfresh Studio inks, adding some darker ink towards the bottom of each leaf, then die cut using the matching die.

The background panel was created using an embossing folder, onto which I attached the frame using small pieces of 3D foam.

I then took the vellum and die cut some extra foliage to place around and about to create more subtle details.

The sentiment was created by swiping one of the ink pads I had used for the ink blending, and using a Time 4 Tea Designs die, with the shadow layer also in vellum.

Hello again. I have created a card for one of my friends going through some tough stuff at the moment, and decided to use patterned paper from my stash:

I wanted to create a Z fold card for the current challenge at Die Cut Divas, together with the theme of ‘bees’ from Double D challenge.

I knew I had some honeycomb/bee papers from 49 & Market somewhere, and I hunted them out, picked several of the papers and decided which ones I wanted.

I created the Z fold using an A2 card base, matted one piece on the inside, and another piece to the front narrower panel, also covering the rear of that folded piece.

I used the ‘Honey Bees’ die set from The Greetery to create the three bees – all coming from the same die set. The yellow part of the bees is from a previously created panel – ink smooshing, acrylic paint splattering, and I think there was even some water droplets thrown in for good measure. I liked the almost honey-like colour on the panel.

The black stripes of the main bee were cut at the same time, from the same yellow piece, and coloured with a W9 Copic marker – not black – as I wanted the legs and antennae to look a little warmer, and stand out from the black hexagon.

The black hexagon piece is from the same patterned paper pack, but onto that I also used some Distress paste – the translucent paste – and a Simon says Stamp honeycomb stencil to create a little more detail and interest behind the bee, scraped through quite haphazardly.

The wings for all three bees were die cut from vellum, and all the layers attached. I had to wait until the following day for the paste to dry, but then it was putting everything together to make the card you see.

I added the sentiment strip, layered with a piece of black for stability.

ABC Christmas Challenge – P, Q, & R

Hello everyone. It is my turn to host the new challenge at ABC Christmas Challenge. We have three letters and themes for you to choose for your Christmas projects:

P is for Pastel colours

Q is for Quick

R is for Robins

I chose to make two cards covering two of the challenge themes:

Q is for Quick:

For this card, I used a Spellbinders embossing folder for the background panel, and onto that I adhered some die cut washi from Pinkfresh Studio, then a previously foiled sentiment. Simple and quick, but I think very effective none-the-less.

R is for Robins:

This card was little more faffy, but fun creating.

I first used the two layering Robin stamps from The Greetery, then the matching dies to cut them out. I also wanted some branches, so used another layering stamp set from The Greetery ‘Blooming Branch’.

The background is a panel of silver glitter card stock, with branches adhered to it. When I came to add the branches and the birds, I though the background was too busy, and I wanted the Robins to stand out more, but still keep the glitter effect.

I used a Pinkfresh Studio die to cut out a shaped piece of vellum, added that on top of some of the branches, then added branches and the two birds on top of that.

The final addition was a silver foiled sentiment:

Sending Snowflake Kisses

Hello once again. The Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge is starting a new challenge. The theme is always ‘anything goes Christmas’. Here is my card:

I started by die cutting the snowflake panel with white card stock using a Pinkfresh Studio and layering some silver glitter card stock behind to shine through the openings. This was added to the card base, then I set to ink blending the Waffle Flower ‘Postage Collage Snowman’ layering stencils.

I ink blended the images, then created a slightly darker halo effect around each image to highlight them a little more.

This was then die cut using the Postage Collage die, then each image cut apart to create individual pieces, and arranged on the snowflake background.

The sentiment is silver foiled.

For once, no additional embellishments as I thought the glitter card and the foiling were enough. I hope you can come and join us. xx

Hello again. It is my turn to host at The Alphabet Challenge, and having reached the letter ‘I’, I chose the theme of ‘ink blending’. Here is my card:

I chose to use a stamp set from Pinkfresh Studio ‘Pretty Blooms’. I stamped all the florals in a light grey ink, then used the layering stencils to ink blend using Pinkfresh Studio inks. I wanted bold and bright colours for the flowers. Once ink blended, I then stamped the images again – I hadn’t moved the stamp from my Misti. This is a technique learnt from one of the Pinkfresh Studio virtual events, it certainly gives a bolder outline when stamped after ink blending.

I then used the matching dies to cut them out.

The background is a smaller than A2 panel, die cut with a postage edge die, then run through with a background panel with stitching on the create more interest.

This was adhered to the card base, the floral images adhered with 3D foam, and then the gold foiled sentiment added. The final touch – as usual with me – was adding some gold gems

Hello everyone. Cardz 4 Galz has started a new challenge. Dawn is hosting this time round, and has chosen the theme of:

Scenic – create a scene or use a scenic topper or paper

Here is my card:

I started by creating the background panel. For this I used water-colour card stock, and sprayed some Hero Arts shimmer spray – quite liberally – to create a vivid and shimmery background.

Whilst this was drying, I created the mountain scene using stencils from Pinkfresh Studio and the recent ‘cards for him‘ event. I wanted purple mountains against the blue background, so used a selection of Pinkfresh Studio inks for the ink blending on the layering stencils. then used the matching dies to cut them out.

before adhering the blue panel to a card base, I took some stamps from the same event and heat embossed the shooting star in a silver glitter embossing powder – a subtle effect but there none-the-less.

The panel was then glued down to the card base. the mountains glued flat also, the the sentiment stamped and die cut with the matching dies, also adhered flat.

The final addition was some facetted gems.

Hope Your Day Is Purrfect

Hello there. I have had a busy few days out and about, but managed to find time to play with some products from my stash bought from a UK Facebook live sale they have every month:

The theme for this card is from the current challenge at As You Like It. They want to know if you are a cat or dog person – and why……. As most of you know, I am currently owned by four cats. We have never had dogs – both working full time for forty years – and therefore cats are what we started to homing 18 years or so ago.

These products from AALL & Create were an impulse buy, purely because they are cats, and the colours in this creative box sang to me.

I used one of the background cards which came in the box, and die cut the black layer from another AALL & Create die set. To get everything on the background I wanted, I die cut the black twice as it wasn’t quite long enough and just layered it behind. I then used a piece of paper from my stash to put behind the black, and then added to a 5 x 7 inch off-white card base.

The sentiment was stamped onto a piece of the background paper, then I used a smaller die from the frame set and angled it around to get the same edging.

I added the sentiment first, then arranged four of the cats as you see. I chose cats which would stand out a little from the gorgeous background, added the word ‘LOVE’ as well as the heart – ephemera from the same creative box.

I am not one for using lots of ephemera, but I have quite a lot from previous crafty events which I may just have to play with.

A Little Holiday Sparkle

Hello again. The Holly & Ivy Christmas Challenge has started a new challenge – the theme is always ‘anything goes Christmas‘. Here is my card:

I used a collection of Pinkfresh Studio products to create this card, received for as part of a previous virtual event.

The first step was to hot foil the plate with the images on them, then ink blend with my choice of colour scheme using Pinkfresh Studio inks, then use the matching die to cut them out.

For the background, I took a white panel and used a Spellbinders embossing folder, placing that behind a panel of gold glitter card stock from which I die cut an oval from the centre.

I added the hot foiled sentiment to the centre of the aperture, then arranged the images with a mixture of 3D foam and glue.

The final step was to add some teal gems here and there – quite a few actually – I just couldn’t stop….

Congrats On Your New Home

Hello again. There is a new challenge starting at The Alphabet Challenge. Dawn is hosting, and she has chosen the theme of ‘H is for Home’. Here is my card:

I chose to use an older Lawn Fawn die set for the house – ‘Build-a-House’. The main part of the house was die cut, then I used a small Tim Holtz ‘Mini Brickwork‘ embossing folder to create the brick effect.

All the other layers and elements were die cut and assembled, with some light grey textured card stock for behind the windows.

Once the house was completed, I used a Hero Arts mica spray received as part of an online event, sprayed the top of normal white card to create a less intense look – sprayed finely to not damage the card stock of over-wet it, and let that dry. I like the effect of the solid top and the flecked bottom part of the card, and I simply adhered the house to the centre.

I stamped the sentiment from a Scrapbook & cards today stamp set, die cut with the matching dies, layered a couple of times for stability, and glued that down.

The final step was to add three facetted gems….

Cardz 4 Galz – Fun Fold

Hello everyone. I have had a short break with hubby – travelling around Italy with a short stop in Switzerland. Hubby drove and we covered 1000kms in four days, through several mountain passes and lots and lots of hair-pin bends – they look like amazing zig-zags on the maps we followed.

Now back and hopefully crafting more, though I must my mojo seems to be having a longer break than me.

Here is the card I made for the new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz. Sue J is hosting, and she has chosen the theme of ‘Fun Fold’.

The design team has been a little more adventurous with their fun folds than me, but I actually enjoyed the process of creating this card.

I chose the gatefold layout, using patterned paper with a woodgrain effect as a backdrop to the vibrant flowers I was going to add.

The middle panel was another piece of paper from the same collection, the bamboo trellis is from Spellbinders, which I cut and assembled twice so I could make it a little longer.

The flowers and leaves are also from Spellbinders, using a few of their floral sets, assembling and arranging to cover the join in the trellis, and just generally whatever suited my eye.

The panel was then attached to the left side of the gate-fold card, and the foiled sentiment added – a bold black strip with gold foiling to make it stand out. Gems were added to the centre of the flowers – and a few around and about.
