Christmas Greetings

Hello once again. I have a card to share using a Spellbinders die set and embossing folder:

I first die cut the images out of the colours of card stock you see, not really sure what colours for what layers that I wanted to use to create the final card.

I layered and played with the colours, then played with the layout until deciding on what you see.

I used the Spellbinders embossing folder and layered that with 3D foam onto a white card base. The floral arrangement was added using a mixture of 3D foam and wet glue, and I think I changed my mind so many times where all the elements were going…..I have enough left over for a couple more cards too.

The sentiment is a previously foiled strip, and some iridescent sequins were added for a bit of bling.

Snow Season

Hello there. I have a CAS card to share today:

I had some of this blue ‘creation’ card left over and decided to use it for this card.

The blue card was created by putting glue onto a plain white card, placing tissue paper on top – moving it around a little to create some wrinkles – spritzing it with water, and then adding Brushos. More water, some tipping to let the colour move around – and then let it dry.

Once dry, I rubbed some gold wax over the top to create some wrinkles, and then die cut the four letters. Rub the wrinkles before die cutting, as sometimes the wrinkles can be flattened a little.

I then die cut the same letters from white card stock another two times, and layered all three together.

The sentiment is from a previous foiling session.

I’ve tried to capture the shine and colour on the letters, as well as the dimension.

Kraft and White Christmas

Hello. A little play in my craft room created this card:

Onto a Kraft card base I stamped and white heat embossed this gorgeous – older – poinsettia stamp from Uniko. I then used a couple of colours of pencils to darken the leaves. I haven’t used my pencils in such a long time and may have to try them out again in the near future.

I also white heat embossed the sentiment, and added some white sequins.

A simple card – took a little planning – but I like the effect of the end results.

Merry Wishes To You And Yours

Hello there. I have been playing with a new-to-me die set from Tim Holtz:

I first created some panels of green shimmery card using Tim Holtz mica sprays in varying shades of green and one panel of orange. I let them dry overnight, as I had used Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, which would need a couple of passes through my machine – that card stock is indeed ‘heavy’.

I then die cut the wreath layers and stuck them together. Now – that sounds simple – but it took some figuring out – it’s a good job I was in a fiddly and fussy kinda mood! I then die cut the berries and used only two layers – my fiddly and fussy mood didn’t extend to the small, very small, outer berry circles!

I also used the remainder of the orange mica card to die cut the bow.

Once the wreath layers and berries were glued down, I turned to the background, and die cut this snowflake panel – again – for a white-on-white background. I thought this added interest without taking away from the wreath.

I then searched through my previously foiled Christmas sentiment stash and used the one you see.

Compliments Of The Season

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge has started a new ‘anything goes Christmas’ challenge. Here is my creation:

To create the box, I used the Elizabeth Craft Designs ‘Shadow Box Frames’/ I watched her video to create the box, and once I got my head around the pieces, the folding, and the gluing I was pleased with the result.

I used some brown marbled card to create the box, as I wanted a darker frame, and once the box was created, I used some patterned paper as the base, and built everything from there.

I searched through all my Tim Holtz Christmas ephemera – of which I have a lot – and haven’t used very much. I’m currently going through my patterned papers and ephemera collection to try and use them as I bought them after being inspired by his and his creators posts – the style isn’t my usual – but I’m enjoying creating – just going with the flow!

I adhered poinsettias – from his ‘worn wallpaper’ around the outside of the frame, as well as bells and candy canes. The inside were some of his pocket cards – cut down a little – and other ticket ephemera, with a little button on the bottom corner.

I wanted to use the deer, and put some natural raffia – coloured with Distress re-inkers – behind to support the die cut, and lend a ‘woodland’ feel.

I hope you can come along and join us with your Christmas creations – I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx

Merry Poinsettia Christmas

The Holly and Ivy Challenge has started a new ‘anything goes Christmas’ challenge. Here is my card:

I first adhered some patterned paper onto a 5 x 7 card base.

The wreath, poinsettia dies, branch dies are from last years Concord & 9th ‘Holly Jolly’ virtual event, and the sentiment is from Hero Arts.

I used Concord & 9th card stock for the poinsettia leaves and the additional branches – as well as the shadow layer behind the sentiment.

The words are die cut out of glitter card stock – layered a couple of times with white card stock.

Some gold glitter drops applied to the centre of the poinsettia, the leaves curled slightly for dimension.

I hope you can come and join us with your festive creations.

Snowflake Panel

The Holly and Ivy Christmas challenges has started a new ‘anything goes Christmas’ challenge. Here is my card:

As I’ve been playing with alcohol inks, I used a previously prepared piece for the background to this Simon Says Stamp snowflake die.

I then layered that with some white glitter card.

I cut another panel out of that same glitter card, snipped out the snowflakes, and added them just slightly offset to their respective place on the panel.

This was stuck down using 3D foam onto an embossed panel – again from Simon Says Stamp – and then onto a card base.

The sentiment wad die cut out of three pieces of white card stock, then the white glitter card – four layers for added dimension – and adhered as you see – at a little jaunty angle.

I hope you can come and join us with your Christmas creations. xx

Happy Penguin Holidays

Hello. A new challenge has started at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. The theme is always ‘anything goes Christmas/festive‘. Here is my card:

The cute penguin image is from Gerda Steiner, coloured with Copics, with the sentiment from the same stamp set.

The background is ink blended Distress inks with a little gitterly splatter. Hills created using Lawn Fawn dies, and Lawn Fawn glitter applied to the top of each hill and their hats.

I also decided to add some glittery clouds on the top with a little – just a little – ink blending.

I hope you can come and join us and increae your crafty stash ready forr the end of the year – I look forward to seeing your creations. xx

Ephemera Christmas

Hello once again. A new challenge has started at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. The theme is always anything goes as long as it’s Christmas. Here is my card:

This card is completely outside of my comfort zone….I have been so loving the kits and packets of die-cut Christmas ephemera from Craft Box UK and 14 Craft Bar – that I bought them without knowing what the heck I was going to do with them!

I don’t use ephemera like this, I don’t know what to layer with what – but I had a good time making this card. I just dumped the three packets in front of me and played. I actually made three cards – but this one I particularly like with the deer and her baby.

The wood effect behind the deer is actually part of the packaging for one set – I liked the neutral distressed look to highlight the two deer – and then the sentiment and branches and mistletoe and pine cones – I just had fun placing them.

I hope you can come and join us for this challenge. I can’t see to see what you create. xx

Winter Bouquets

Hello there. A new challenge has begun at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. The theme is ‘anything goes’ as long as it is Christmas. Here is my card:

I used the Honey Bee Stamps ‘Winter Bouquet‘ Honey Cuts and took lots of inspiration from watching YouTube and Nicole Spohr when she was making cards with this set.

The main thing for me was to use Copics on the die-cut elements to create some dimension – a game changer for me. I never thought of doing that to die cuts when using a coloured card.

I die cut the elements out of coloured card, used some matching Copics, then assembled as you see. The centre of the poinsettias are actually a very bright yellow glitter card – no idea where it came from – and then I just used a brown Copic to tone it down.

The sentiment is white heat embossed, and is from a Stampin Up set and white heat embossed onto a die cut panel.

I stuck most of the element down with 3D glue gel, only the tiny sprigs where stuck with glue.

The background is a piece of water-colour card and spritzed with Lumi spray – I wanted a bright shimmer to the background. then came the Nuvo drops – I’ve not used them for a few weeks so here we go – making up for the loss!

I hope you can come and join us for this challenge – I look forward to seeing you in our gallery. xx
